Pied and Lutino Mutations 28 Feb 2009
The pied was the first mutation to occur in cockatiels nearly 50 years ago in the United States of America. It was later followed by the Lutino.
The pied first appeared in the dominant form and it was two decades later that it appeared in the recessive variety as in this photo of a whiteface pied.
This young whitefaced hen has a blotchy appearance, which is unusual and it is more likely to lose most of its darker front in favour of a lighter shade as it moults and matures.
